BelbienTM is best described as an architectural overlay with a pressure sensitive self-adhesive backing.  It is available in over 500 standard interior and exterior patterns.  Custom finishes are available.

Belbien was developed in 1977 by C.I. Kasei Co., Ltd. in Japan.  It is used extensively in Japan and is expanding around the world.  Belbien is a proven product for an endless variety of applications.  Following is a summary of Belbien's unique attributes and characteristics.

Adhesive System

Belbien's pressure-sensitive adhesive actually increases in bond strength over time and makes Belbien perfect for resurfacing non-porous substrates such as high-pressure laminates, steel, aluminum, melamine and other similar surfaces.

Fire and Smoke Ratings

Belbien received a "Class A" fire and smoke development rating as tested by Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc.  These ratings are tested in accordance with UL-723 and ASTM E-84 standards.

This quality makes Belbien the perfect solution for renovating elevator cabs and other areas where strict fire and smoke development ratings are required.

Exterior Applications

Belbien EX can be applied to steel, metal and "glassboard" surfaces on the exterior of building structures.  The surface must be smooth and solid.

Belbien EX also features and anti-corrosive film layer that makes it resistant to direct UV sunlight, rain, snow, ice, smog and other perils of nature.

Durability and Repairability

Belbien assumes the impact properties of the substrate to which it is applied.

Belbien EX is often specified for interior application where extra durability is demanded for stain resistance, i.e. permanent markers and food preparation areas.

It is also specified for areas which may be exposed to strong solvents such as Toluene, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Ethyl Acetate and Acetone.

Belbien can be repaired easily when installed on a smooth, solid, non-porous substrate.  Small damaged areas can be patched or an entire strip can be removed and restored with a new one.  Belbien can also be installed over Belbien with proper preparation.

Width and Length

Belbien's width and length (4' x 164') are helpful when installing projects such as tall columns, long reception counters, facades and wall panels where minimal or no seams are required.

Weight

Belbien weighs significantly less than most decorative surfacing materials.  When weight is a factor, such as on trade show exhibits, elevator cabs and marble partitions, Belbien is an excellent solution.

Thickness

Belbien's thickness is only .006".  It can be applied to such projects as elevator doors, store fixtures and doors without affecting the operation of moving parts.

Flexibility

Belbien can be easily applied to curved objects such as round columns, concave and convex shapes.  It will conform easily around 90 degree corners such as on store fixtures or wall panels.

Conformability

Belbien interior and exterior patterns may be stretched and conformed to selected three dimensional projects.  These types of applications are intricate and often time consuming.  However, they offer a unique solution to a variety of architectural and design challenges.

Graphic Capability

Customized graphic designs are made possible by computer design and cutting technology.  This feature permits clients to create custom logos and other designs for specialized applications such as elevator doors, reception desk facades and wall panels.
