Cashwrap Case Study

Cashwraps (also known as checkout counters and cash wells) play a vital role in any retail store. They provide opportunity to increase sales, build your brand, and enhance both customer and employee satisfaction. They are also the location where retail transactions are made. For these reasons, the appearance of your store’s cashwrap is fundamental.

Because of the traffic they endure, cashwraps are often the most abused fixtures in a store. There are two options to choose from when a cashwrap has been damaged: transform the existing surface or purchase a new fixture.

When calculating the cost of a new cashwrap, demolition, IT needs, flooring, and construction time should all be taken into consideration in addition to the price of the fixture.

Replacement Cost

The cost to replace and install a new cashwrap on average runs from $10,000 to $16,000. Compare this to creative reuse with Architectural Film where the average cost per cashwrap is $6,000 to $8,000.

Demolition Cost

If you choose to purchase a new cashwrap, you will have to remove the old fixture. Removal of your store’s cashwrap may cost you up to $2,000. There are no demolition costs associated with transforming your fixture’s surface with Architectural Film.

Data Transfer Costs

When replacing a cashwrap, the point of sales system will often have to be shut down and relocated – sometimes replaced all together. Transferring data from an old POS to the new may cost you upwards of $600. Data transfer is not needed with a Architectural Film transformation – your POS will stay in place throughout the installation.

Flooring Replacement Cost

Often the existing cashwrap footprint will not work with the new fixture. This means the flooring has to be updated. This can add several thousand dollars to the scope of a project. Because the existing cashwrap remains in place when resurfacing with Architectural Film, new flooring is not an associated cost.

Lead Time

Often made from MDF, the lead time for a new cashwrap can be extensive – taking up to several weeks to ship and arrive on site. Surfacequest Certified Installers can renovate an existing cashwrap overnight – usually taking just ten hours or less.

When considering all costs associated with the traditional rip and rebuild method of a cashwrap replacement, the total renovation cost usually runs anywhere from $15,000 to $21,000. RevRetail by Surfacequest can transform your cashwrap for much less – typically $6,000 to $8,000 per cashwrap.

The mission of Surfacequest is to embrace and drive transformational change that benefits our clients through unique and cost-effective adaptive reuse, product and design solutions utilizing Architectural Film.
